Isabel Shiqin Gao is a Chinese filmmaker who came to the U.S. in 2018 to study Social Documentary Film at the School of Visual Arts.
Her experience as an international student, especially during the transformative period of the pandemic, sparked her interest in themes of dual identities, the challenges faced by international students, and the complex journey of growing up. Her directorial work often focuses on these nuanced experiences, capturing the inner conflicts and resilience of young people finding their place in the world.
Since graduating, Isabel has worked in documentary post-production on feature films like Locked Out and Walk with Me as well as the short Finding Fate. She has also contributed as an Associate Editor on One More Mission and Two Roads, among other projects.
Isabel loves experimenting with new genres. She is currently in production on her first feature documentary, diving deeper into new creative challenges.
